Mount Juliet keeps growing: the Census counted 39,289 residents in 2020 and estimated 45,172 by July 2025. About one home in four went up in the 2000s. A drive built with one of those homes is now around 20 years old. On worn asphalt, cracks spread and the edges crumble into the grass.

By Census estimates, two of every three Mount Juliet homes went up in 2000 or later. The median home was built in 2006, and fewer than one in ten predates 1980. The Census permit survey counted 417 new single-family homes permitted here in 2025. The City calls itself one of Tennessee's fastest growing communities.
If an older drive still has a sound base, asphalt resurfacing puts a new layer of hot mix over it. If the base has failed, the drive needs a full replacement. Asphalt repair handles smaller trouble, such as potholes and broken edges.
We normally seal the drives we pave, and we take sealcoating jobs on existing asphalt too. We work the sealer into the surface with a brush or squeegee. That fills the pores and keeps water out of the asphalt.
Clay and limestone, mostly. NRCS soil data around the city center shows Talbott silt loam on about a fifth of the ground. The NRCS describes Talbott as soil formed in clay weathered from limestone, with moderately slow permeability. Water moves through it slowly, and the NRCS rates its runoff medium to rapid.
Rock sits close to the surface in the cedar glades. Gladeville soils are very shallow over thin beds of limestone, mapped together with rock outcrop. Hampshire silt loam is mapped on slopes of 12 to 20 percent. Along the creek bottoms, the survey marks Lindell silt loam as occasionally flooded.
That ground shapes how we build a drive here. We set string lines and strip out the grass and vegetation. Then we grade the drive so water runs off it and pack the crushed stone base with a roller. The hot mix goes down last, from the top of the drive out to the road.
Inside city limits, the Building and Codes Department exempts some driveways from a building permit. Its list covers driveways no more than 30 inches above grade and not over a basement or story below. The drive also cannot be part of an accessible route. That exception speaks to the building permit only.
Work in the street right-of-way is a separate question. The City's Engineering Department lists permitting and right-of-way inspections among its services. Under state law, a new driveway onto a state route, such as Lebanon Road (US-70), needs a TDOT permit.
Outside city limits, the Wilson County Road Commission sizes any culvert a new driveway needs on a county road. Its policy calls for culverts at least 24 feet long. Tennessee law also calls for an 811 request at least three working days before digging, and grading counts. We point you to the right office before work starts.
Past the subdivisions, Wilson County is still farm country. The 2022 Census of Agriculture counted 1,443 farms in the county, and the average farm covered 125 acres. Old Hickory Lake lies north of town, and Percy Priest Lake lies to the south. Rural Hill sits to the south and Gladeville to the southeast.
For a long drive or a farm lane, we offer farm lane and private road paving. The steps match a driveway at a longer scale. We pave lanes a half mile to a mile long, and drives that take one load of asphalt.
In town, we pave small lots for churches and small shops. Parking lot paving includes the grading and the stone base, with drainage worked into the grade. New commercial work generally goes through site plan review with the City's Planning and Zoning Department. Its checklist asks plans to show flood zones and karst features.
